set-of-6-original-thonet-215-rf-bentwood-74127
Set of 6 Original Thonet 215 RF Bentwood Armchairs, 1980s Germany, Vintage Coffee House Chairs

Beautiful set of six bentwood armchairs by Thonet, model 215 RF, dating from the 1980s and manufactured in Germany.

The model 215 RF belongs to the classic Thonet coffeehouse chair tradition, with “RF” referring to the version with armrests. Originally designed by Michael Thonet in 1859, this iconic bentwood design combines elegant curves, traditional craftsmanship, and timeless functionality.

This distinctive set features beautifully shaped, dark reddish-brown varnished wooden frames, graceful curved armrests, slender tapered legs, and upholstered seats and backrests. The flowing silhouette and sculptural bentwood construction give the chairs a light yet expressive appearance, making them an excellent addition to both vintage and contemporary interiors.

The real highlight is the wonderful leaf-pattern upholstery in warm salmon orange, accented with delicate cream and pastel-yellow leaves connected by fine, organic lines. The botanical pattern creates a charming retro aesthetic, beautifully complementing the rich tone of the wood. Together, the colours and shapes give this set a unique personality that stands out from more conventional café and dining chairs.

The combination of classic German bentwood craftsmanship and colourful patterned upholstery makes these chairs particularly appealing for a vintage coffee house, café, restaurant, garden house, country home, or creative interior design project. They would also work beautifully around a dining table, bringing warmth, character, and a relaxed vintage atmosphere to the space.

The chairs bear a manufacturer’s stamp underneath, supporting their Thonet attribution.

A wonderful matching set for collectors, vintage furniture enthusiasts, hospitality projects, and anyone looking to create a distinctive interior with authentic vintage character.

Details

* Manufacturer: Thonet
* Model: 215 RF — coffeehouse armchair
* Designer: Michael Thonet
* Period: 1980s
* Country of manufacture: Germany
* Quantity: Set of 6 chairs
* Construction: Bentwood frame
* Finish: Dark reddish-brown varnished wood
* Upholstery: Salmon-orange fabric with cream and pastel-yellow leaf pattern
* Seat and backrest: Upholstered
* Style: Mid-century, vintage, classic bentwood, Central European design
* Markings: Manufacturer’s stamp underneath

Dimensions (approx.)

* Height: 83 cm
* Width: 52.5 cm
* Depth: 55 cm
* Armrest height: 67 cm
* Seat height: 46 cm
* Seat width: 44 cm
* Seat depth: 41 cm

Condition

Beautiful vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with the chairs’ history.
