Set of 6 René Herbst Model 212 Sandows Chairs for Pallucco, 1980s Italian Mid-Century Modern Chrome Dining Chairs
Rare Set of 6 Model 212 Sandows Chairs by René Herbst for Pallucco, Italy, 1980s
A striking and increasingly sought-after set of six Model 212 Sandows chairs, designed by René Herbst and produced by Pallucco in Italy during the 1980s.
Combining architectural precision with minimalist industrial design, these exceptional chairs showcase Herbst’s distinctive approach to modern seating. Their sculptural chrome-plated tubular steel frames create a clean, elegant silhouette, beautifully contrasted by the black elastic tension cords that form both the seats and backrests.
The defining feature of the Sandows design is its ingenious tension-cord construction. Individual black cords are stretched across the frame and secured with polished chrome clamps, creating a visually striking structure that balances lightness, flexibility and functionality. The exposed mechanical details give the chairs their unmistakable character, making them particularly appealing to collectors and enthusiasts of Italian design, Bauhaus-inspired furniture and postmodern interiors.
