Original Thonet S 34 Bauhaus Cantilever Armchair – White Leather & Chrome, Mart Stam, Germany, 1980s

An iconic piece of German design history.

This original Thonet S 34 cantilever armchair is a beautiful example of timeless Bauhaus and Mid-Century Modern design. Designed by Mart Stam, the S 34 is celebrated for its architectural tubular steel construction, elegant cantilever frame and distinctive minimalist aesthetic.

Manufactured by Thonet in Germany during the 1980s, this example features beautiful white leather upholstery combined with a polished chrome-plated tubular steel frame.

The chair’s floating cantilever construction creates a distinctive visual lightness while providing comfortable and flexible seating. The white leather seat, backrest and armrest upholstery contrast beautifully with the reflective chrome structure, making it an elegant addition to contemporary and vintage interiors alike.

Every chair carries the original Thonet manufacturer’s stamp underneath, confirming its manufacturer.

Condition

Good vintage condition with signs of age and use, including some scratches and minor surface wear consistent with the age of the chairs.

The white leather remains very clean and presents beautifully. The chrome-plated frames are exceptionally clean and shiny, with attractive reflections.

All chairs are very stable and structurally sound, with no damage to the frames.
