Brutalist Cognac Leather Brazilian Chair and Ottoman 1960s
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s a group of young Brazilian designers produced some of the most extraordinary antique furniture of the period a series of unique forms which merged traditional materials, native and colonial influences and a progressive, relaxed attitude that all came together to somehow express Brazil's unique take on the modern movement. This is a Brazilian modern tropical hardwood frames with construction expressed in the oversized peg and mortice joints. Supporting a very thick leather sling seat stitched with gaucho style leather lacing.
On top of this sits a loose cushion forming both the seat and back pads in a softer hide with decorative stitching.
Maker unknown but very much in the style of Brazilian modern designers such as Jean Gillon and Sergio Rodrigues.
