Rare Mid century Dieter Rams 620 Lounge Chair RZ62 – Brown Corduroy, White Shell & Swivel Base, Germany, 1970s
An iconic example of German modernist furniture design, this vintage high-back lounge chair belongs to the celebrated 620 Chair Programme (originally RZ 62), designed by Dieter Rams for Vitsœ in 1962.
Combining clean architectural lines, carefully considered proportions, and functional elegance, this distinctive armchair embodies Rams’ timeless design philosophy. The sculptural white outer shell contrasts beautifully with the rich brown corduroy upholstery, creating a sophisticated combination of warm texture and minimalist form.
The chair features a generously padded high backrest, an integrated headrest, comfortable upholstered armrests, and a rotating swivel base. Its understated yet distinctive silhouette makes it an exceptional statement piece for contemporary interiors, mid-century collections, design studios, and architect-designed spaces.
Design by Dieter Rams
Dieter Rams is one of the most influential industrial designers of the 20th century. Best known for his work at Braun and his enduring collaboration with Vitsœ, Rams developed a design language defined by clarity, functionality, durability, and restraint.
Introduced in 1962, the 620 Chair Programme is a particularly important example of his furniture design. Its modular concept allows individual seating elements to be combined into larger arrangements, including sofas, while interchangeable components offer flexibility and adaptability.
The 620 programme was recognised for its originality and was accepted into the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in 1970.
Manufactured by Vitsœ
Vitsœ was established to bring Dieter Rams’ furniture designs into production. The company became renowned for its thoughtful approach to functional furniture, high-quality construction, and enduring design principles.
The 620 programme remains one of the most recognisable designs from the Rams–Vitsœ collaboration, appreciated by collectors and design enthusiasts around the world.
