A rare and exceptional Matteo Grassi MG5 cantilever chair in white saddle leather, designed in the Bauhaus style of Mart Stam and manufactured in Italy in the 1980s. This model (B34/MG5) is one of the most elegant and sought-after versions, featuring a sculptural chrome tubular frame paired with refined white leather upholstery and leather-.
The chair retains the timeless Bauhaus cantilever silhouette first introduced by Mart Stam in the 1920s and later reinterpreted by Matteo Grassi in the 1970s and 1980s. Matteo Grassi, originally founded in 1880 as a saddle and riding goods workshop, became known for its exceptional leather craftsmanship — clearly visible in the clean stitching, saddle leather thickness, and embossed branding.
This particular chair is in excellent condition, very well-preserved, with only minimal signs of age.
