Rare original Thonet “Flex” chair designed by Gerd Lange, West Germany, 1970s.

A striking example of late Mid-Century German furniture design, this Flex chair was designed by Gerd Lange for Thonet and produced in West Germany during the 1970s. The model is known for its distinctive combination of a sculptural black molded plastic shell and a warm wooden frame. The design was recognized with the “Gute Form” award in 1969.

The chair features the characteristic continuous, organically shaped seat and back shell, creating a clean architectural silhouette while providing comfortable support. The warm beechwood frame contrasts beautifully with the black shell and the original green upholstery, giving this particular example a very distinctive vintage appearance.

The photos show the chair in very good vintage condition, with minor age-related signs of use consistent with its age. There are small traces of wear to the wooden frame and upholstery, which form part of its authentic vintage character.
