A wonderful and exceptionally comfortable 1970s Scandinavian Skye lounge chair, designed by Swedish designer Tord Björklund for IKEA.
With its striking combination of a sculptural chrome-plated tubular steel frame, generous reclining form and beautifully aged cognac-colored leather upholstery, this chair is a fantastic example of the relaxed, functional aesthetic of Scandinavian Space Age design.
The long, ergonomic silhouette was designed with comfort in mind. The generously proportioned seat and reclined back create an inviting lounge position, making it perfect as a reading chair, relaxation chair, lounge chair or statement piece in a living room, office, bedroom or sophisticated interior.
DESIGN
The Skye chair reflects the characteristic Scandinavian approach of the 1970s: functional construction combined with a strong sculptural presence.
The polished chrome tubular-steel frame gives the chair a light, architectural appearance, while the warm cognac leather adds contrast and develops a beautiful vintage patina over time. The combination of chrome, leather and canvas gives the piece an unmistakable 1970s Scandinavian character.
Designed by Tord Björklund, a Swedish designer born in 1944, who worked with IKEA and became known for furniture combining practical functionality with distinctive contemporary forms.
