1 of 2 mid century Spaceage Carlo Bartoli Roter 4875 Chair for Kartell – Italy, 1970s
A striking and highly collectible example of Italian industrial design, this Roter 4875 chair was designed by Carlo Bartoli for Kartell in Italy in 1972.
The chair is particularly important in the history of furniture design for its innovative construction. The single-piece seat and backrest shell was produced from polypropylene using injection moulding, combined with four individually attached legs. Its clean, sculptural form and bright yellow colour perfectly capture the experimental character of Italian design from the 1970s.
The Roter 4875 was nominated for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro in 1979 and has since become part of the permanent collections of major design institutions, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Kartell Museum in Milan.
Its lightweight, durable polypropylene construction makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, while its distinctive silhouette makes it an excellent statement piece for modern, mid-century and collectible design interiors.
The chair is clearly marked underneath with the original Kartell / Carlo Bartoli 4875 production marking, as shown in the photographs.
