Rare 1970s Adjustable Mid-Century Lounge Chair – German Design
A truly distinctive and highly unusual 1970s adjustable reclining lounge chair, combining a beautifully engineered solid wooden structure with luxurious leather upholstery.
This sculptural chair is especially interesting because of its complex articulated construction and multiple adjustable positions. The backrest, seat and leg/footrest can be individually positioned, allowing the chair to transform from a more upright lounge position into a deeply reclined, almost chaise-longue-like position.
The design is both functional and visually striking, with exposed mechanical elements becoming an important part of the aesthetic.

The chair also retains an original label referring to the International Invention Exhibition (IENA) and a Gold Medal (“Goldmedaille”). This is an exceptionally interesting detail and suggests a connection with an awarded/inventive design.
The exact manufacturer attribution is not fully legible from the surviving label, therefore we prefer to describe the chair accurately rather than make an unverified designer or manufacturer claim.
Condition
Very good overall vintage condition for its age, with beautiful original character.
The leather shows natural signs of age and use, including some surface wear and patina, particularly visible on the seat, armrests and other contact areas. The wooden structure also displays minor signs of age and use consistent with a vintage piece.
