Rare set of 4 original Irma chairs, designed by the legendary Italian designer Achille Castiglioni for Zanotta, Italy, circa the 1980s.
The Irma chair was designed in 1979 and became one of Castiglioni’s distinctive seating designs for Zanotta. The design is characterized by its exceptionally clean, lightweight tubular-steel construction and the sculptural leather seat and back.
This set features a beautiful white tubular steel frame combined with black leather seats and central leather back supports. The striking black-and-white contrast gives the chairs a particularly elegant Italian Mid-Century Modern / Bauhaus-inspired appearance, making them suitable for a dining room, office, meeting room or sophisticated contemporary interior.
A particularly interesting detail of the Irma design is the minimalist backrest: rather than using a conventional upholstered back, Castiglioni reduced it to a central leather strip that follows and supports the natural curve of the spine. The seat and back are constructed using a nylon support covered with leather.

Condition
Very good original vintage condition.
All four chairs are structurally sound and present beautifully. The black leather has attractive signs of age and use consistent with vintage furniture. The white tubular-steel frames remain in very good condition.
Original Zanotta labels are present underneath the chairs, supporting their identification as Zanotta-produced Irma chairs.
